The Saturation of the Market
The market has become more and more saturated with all kinds of products, including many low quality and amateur ones.
Some artists even think that mastering is an optional step to finishing a record. Then, they expect radio stations and DJs to play such horrors. And people to buy them!
Whenever I get a Myspace message asking me to check out their music, that very message gets a one-way ticket to my spam folder. Our experience over the years has taught us what formats (normally) quality music is delivered in. I.e. from solid record labels, or PR companies.
I don't even take in account those digital promo pools that take on all sorts of clients just to profit on them. Because I know from my personal experience what type of submissions a PR company can receive.
So, it takes a lot of effort, or simply the right moves, in order to stand out from the competition. The consumer’s attention span has become a lot shorter, with so many products available to choose from.
The consumer is literally bombarded with advertising information and newsletters of all kinds.
Therefore, expect these individuals to only give attention to promotional messages coming from known/trusted brands:
businesses that come across correct, with the right visual impact, a professional website, a professional promotion team behind them.
